PRODUCT PROPOSAL WORK - FOCS GROUP ANSWERS
We presented
our product to a focus group of students to see what their thoughts were on our
product and to see if they had any comments about our product.
The group
responded well to the presentation about the app and understood that concept of
what it did easily.
The 5
questions I asked were:
1.
Would you
purchase the product if it were to be made available?
2.
Did you
agree with the price of the product?
3.
Do you think
the product is clearly laid out?
4.
Do you think
the target group is appropriate?
5.
Do you think
the product would be popular?
The groups
raised concerns about needing the internet so suggested a offline app that
simply has the bus times, however, our group doesn’t think this is
technologically possible, but we will incorporate it into the app itself. We
don’t think that this app can be used without internet access, however most
students have blackberry’s or IPhones that have Wi-Fi, so the internet doesn’t
have to cost money.
They thought
the price was reasonable at 99p as we said it was aimed at students, which they
agreed is a good age as they are more technological now than they have been in
previous years.
When they
were told about the competition, they agreed that having an app mainly for the
Hampshire area was where the gap in the market was.
They also
wondered about the tracking systems and how much they would cost, but from our
research we found that buses already have tracking systems in place.
There was a
slight issue raised about buses sometimes changing their numbers at certain bus
stops, however this could be combated with the bus driver registering their new
number so we can track them.
They also
wondered about the buying a ticket app and how it would work with a return
ticket. A way of combating this would for the scanners to register when it was
last used and why type of ticket it would be with an individual serial number.
This would mean that the ticket would automatically be deleted after it was
scanned at the end of its use.
At the end
of the group, they were asked who would use this app, everyone in the room,
including 2 adults, agreed that this was a good idea and that if it were to
become available they would get it.

PRODUCT PROPOSAL WORK - RESEARCH INTO COMPETITION
Research into competition
In order to make sure we couldn’t be sued for copyright we
researched other apps similar to ours to make sure we could make ours better
and contained more and better features.
Here are two of the most similar apps and competition:
London bus checker
London bus checker is
one app that will be competition for us. With this app it will be able to tell
you when your bus will be arriving and where about it is. With this app it is
different to ours because it is only based in London. Also there is no feature
to buy your ticket or just wanting to know bus times. This app has one feature
different because it will tell you when you are approaching your stop.
Bus Countdown
Bus countdown is the
other app we will be facing competition with. This is better than London bus
checker we believe. Costing at £1.99 it still is more expensive than ours and
with less features but a better layout. Similar to London bus checker it tells
you where your bus is and how long it will take to get to you but it is still
only in London and with no feature to buy a ticket.
